RE: Diesel starting in Winter

Hi Ian, Welcome to the forum. I too live in Canada, though I now keep my MH in the south during the winter months. I don't think every month is necessary, or even at all. I used to start mine about every two months. I always made sure the fuel tank was full and the engine oil fresh prior to lay up. I keep mine at my house, so it was always fully charged.
If mine was up here all winter, I would start it and run it for 30 to 40 minutes every two months or so. There are many thoughts on this, so I'm sure you will get other good points too from other members.
Keep posting and enjoy.

RE: Idling a Diesel

The semi drivers who do indeed often let 'em idle for hours at a time.....
They have extra heavy duty cooling systems, and extra oil capacity, because some of those rigs run up to 80 TONS, not 80 thousand pounds but 80 TONS and you need a lot of cooling when you haul that kind of tonnage
Your rig, at less than 15 tons, has less cooling for the engine, and may have less oil capacity as well
Semi's traditionally hold around six units of oil, same as a car... The difference is that with a car the "unit" is a quart, and with a semi it's a gallon.
I don't know how much a Motor Home holds.. Gas or Diesel.. I've never changed it myself.
I've never seen where a truck holds 80 tons... that's 160,000 lbs!!!
The most I've heard is 80,000 lbs or 40 tons.
MM.
I agree, 80,000 lbs not 80 tons. Additionally, cooling is not an issue. Most diesel cool down too low when idling.

RE: Port Everglades Ft. Lauderdale where to park 45' Prevost

Wow, you must be a new member! Why would you assume you could park any sized motor home while you take a cruise?
Please tell me where you found the sites available for 40', Exactly when do you have to get this thing done?

RE: Idling a Diesel

Most modern diesel engines do not suffer from low idle cylinder fuel wash. This is because they electronically control the fuel flow, in all conditions. Modern diesels do however, require the combustion chambers to be brought up to temperature. I would caution ever forming an opinion on any one authority, including a mechanics.
So,........judge for yourself.

RE: How the mighty have fallen...

Well, whether your motor home has reduced in value, or your investments have tanked, you have lost or gained nothing, until you sell it or them.

RE: How the mighty have fallen...

What would have the MSRP been ?
If I remember correctly, the MSRP for an all electric 2007 Essex is about $575k as equipped. Lugnut would know better, he has this coach.
Yes the list can be anywhere from +500 to near 600 depending on the options. They do have both hydraulic HWH and Hadley air level as a standard feature. There are options that did not show on the spec sheet for '07 like all power shades, heated floors, multi camera/monitors, etc. So it is possible to have +90k in optional add-ons only.

RE: Irv2 RV Forum

Perhaps there was a technical issue or a maintenance window. I also had some non-connect time yesterday. Give it a try now, it is working.

RE: Going "camping" - pull a TOAD or rent a car locally?

That's a very good question, that will meet with a variety of answers. I tow only if I'm going to be staying in one location for a period of time, otherwise, I rent.

RE: Alternative fuel for Class A's

Hi Bob, welcome to the forum, fellow Canadian. I guess the first thing that comes to mind is the lack of motorized RV's as apposed to other vehicles like cars, SUV's and trucks. Therefore I would think RV's would be down the ladder to be offered with such technology. But, good thinking anyway. The squeeky wheel is still squeeky if it is not a priority. Great input though.

RE: Another Converter Question

The converter goes between the TV and the amplifier. Put up the antenna, turn on the amplifier and follow the directions to let it program the areas available broadcasts.

RE: Electrical service for large class A...220 or 110?

The dryer is normally available in a 220 volt service. That's the way I ordered and got mine. It works on 50 amp service or genset.

RE: Stained Decals is there any way to clean

Additionally, any sign maker can probably make you new vinyl graphics that will match the OEM 100%.

RE: Adding a Slideout to an Older Motorhome

I would question it being financially viable. Additionally, it may also cause other issues. I would not attempt it at any cost.

I;m guessing the A coach may be a Corsair, early '90's. The B, I'm not sure.

RE: Absorbed Glass Matt Batteries

I went to them on my coach. They seem to work well. Wet cells don't seem to work well on an all electric coach. Changed out my boat batteries too.

RE: What type of coolant?

I just changed over to extended life....Final Charge with oat technology. You do not add SCA's to this antifreeze.
I agree. Final Charge is what many new motor homes come with now. It is extended life, no SCA additive required ever and no testing needed. It is available at selected Walmart stores.
I forgot to mention, The Final Charge coolant that you get at Walmart is already cut 50/50. If you are using any non-cut antifreeze, use only distilled or similar quality of water as suggested by Sully.
